Shakuhachi: the traditional Japanese bamboo flute known for its haunting sound and the timeless quality of its ancient meditative repertoire.
Nyokai-an is the shakuhachi dojo (school) of Phil Nyokai James, who teaches individual lessons in Boston, Massachusetts and Portland, Maine as well as various other New England locations.
Phil teaches the solo honkyoku music, sankyoku (classical trio music for shakuhachi, shamisen, and koto), modern music, improvisation, breath work and meditative approaches to musicianship,
