Yoshio Kurahashi Workshop Portland, Maine Saturday, Sept. 5 & Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009 10 am to 6 pm both days |
This is a rare opportunity to participate in an intensive workshop led by one of the world's most respected masters of the shakuhachi. Not only is Kurahashi-sensei a brilliant performer, he is an engaging teacher who enjoys working with students at all levels, from complete beginners to advanced professionals. Participants in previous New England workshops with Kurahashi-sensei consistently rave about the experience. I highly recommend this workshop to all shakuhachi students.
This is a two day workshop, with each day divided into master classes and private lessons. Each master class covers a particular honkyoku or gaikyoku piece. Kurahashi-sensei's teaching style is very inclusive of all levels, but some master classes may be more advanced. You are encouraged to watch all master classes, even if they seem beyond your level - it's a great way to learn.
Location
This year's New England workshop will take place in Maine, either in Portland or a nearby community (exact location still to be determined). This is an excellent time for travel to Maine, and Portland is a fun town to explore in case your family wishes to join you.
Price
The price for the workshop is $180. This includes all master classes plus one 30 minute private lesson with Kurahashi-sensei.
If you do not wish to take the entire workshop, you may sign up for individual master classes at $75 each and/or a 30 minute private lesson for $60.
