Ma 2

Ma is about leaving space in your music, building a musical house that includes windows and doors. It is not about building a house that could fall down in the first storm.

In other words it is not about quietism, passivity, or weakness.

Imposing "gentleness" or intellectually-decided "sensitivity" on the music is almost as great a violence as trampling the sonic environment.

Let the music speak through you, let it assert itself fully; just make sure to leave space for everything else in the world. But don't try to tame the music.

Listen to the birds. They weave their songs out of strong sonic thread, with no thought to being overly passive or cautious. And yet it's a very loose weave.
